BIOGRAPHY

Greek artist Angeliki Stamatakou’s sculptures fuse organic, unconventional forms with a distinctly mysterious and timeless aesthetic.
Stamatakou’s work examines the complex relationship between societal influences and the journey of self-exploration. She expresses a desire to understand the nature of human existence by delving into themes of human connection, peace of mind, and freedom.
These themes manifest in her sculptures, which, while physically stationary, evoke a profound sense of movement and transformation, embodying the fluidity and dynamism of life.
As Stamatakou notes, “I shape the form as I sculpt it, and in turn, it transforms me and how I experience the world around me. I often feel as though I am the one being created through my practice. Ultimately, I find myself surprised by the results; it feels as though the work emerges through me, but not solely by me. It’s a beautiful feeling, and I am incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to experience it.”
Angeliki Stamatakou (b. 1986, Athens, Greece).
Lives and works in Glyfada, Athens. Originally trained in pharmaceuticals, Stamatakou transitioned to the arts, channeling her scientific insights into a distinctive creative vision.
Since embarking on her artistic career, she has gained international recognition, exhibiting at major events, including the 59th Venice Biennale (2022), Milan Design Week (2022, 2023), the Florence Biennale (2023), the LA Art Show (2024), the Biennale of Contemporary Ceramics in Santorini (2024), and Art Athina (2024).
Her work has received the "Lorenzo il Magnifico" Award for Ceramic Art at the XIV Florence Biennale for her sculpture “Elevation.” Additionally, she has been included in the "Rising Star" section of the Homo Faber Guide.
In 2024, Stamatakou expanded her practice by opening workshop spaces in Greece and South Africa, collaborating with artisans to create large-scale installations and sculptural mirrors.
At Art Athina 2024, The Blender Gallery made a bold decision to showcase only Stamatakou's largest sculpture to date, “MONOLITH 36.5711°N 21.1581°E,” as a statement piece. Stamatakou’s sculpture rapidly became one of the most photographed works of the exhibition.
That same year, her sculpture "Odyssey" was created live before an audience of 1,000 during a music event in Athens featuring renowned DJs from around the world. Embracing the freedom of spontaneous creation, Stamatakou allowed her instincts to guide her, demonstrating how the interplay of sound and environment influenced her artistic expression in real time.
In 2024, Angeliki Stamatakou was the featured artist in Anthony Daley’s solo show
“IRREALITY” in London, A collaboration between Varvara Roza Galleries and The Blender Gallery.
